A Keystone Campaign in PA - Watch History in the Making!

Two of the more important things I have learned since becoming a mother are: 1) sometimes things happen for a reason; and 2) mothers, when moved to do so, will take the hill.

For me, BlogHer ‘06 represents a perfect union of these lessons.

I went to the BlogHer conference to talk about The Been There Clearinghouse, a site I co-founded a little over a year ago to help people displaced by Katrina. The Been There Clearinghouse took off when Hurricanehousing.org/MoveOn.org linked to us and sent evacuees our way. Within days, led by hundreds of networked “mom” bloggers, our site was sending help, one-to-one, to thousands of people.

What Women Wish Gwen Ifill Could Have Asked

Gwen Ifill was hobbled by more than a broken ankle at the vice presidential debate. The rules prevented her from asking any follow-up questions. I work with eleven statewide coalitions representing a million people, all fighting for policies that value families at work. Here are some questions we wish Gwen Ifill had been allowed to ask:

Convention Watch! Michelle Obama's Speech

Getting into the spirit of the MomsRising.org BINGO game early, I decided to tune into Day 1 of the Democratic National Convention. There was quite a line up of speakers, from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to Senator Ted Kennedy to Caroline Kennedy to the woman of the hour, Michelle Obama.

***

What Kind of Economic Stimulus Do Mothers and Families Need?

Earlier this year, Congress approved a $168 billion economic stimulus
package that aimed to provide a temporary boost to the economy through
handing out checks to the masses. Many presidents are tempted to try
to stimulate the economy in this way. While Bush did it recently, our
next president might try it, too. The package was a bipartisan

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro -- Toxics in Synthetic Turf?!

The Friday night football game at the high school athletic field, the afternoon play date at the playground, and the weekend picnic at the local park – synthetic turfs are growing in popularity and are increasingly likely to be found in our communities.

A Magical moment in the Women's Movement

Last weekend MomsRising hosted a remarkable conversation. I do confess that I was deeply anxious about gathering a multi-dimensionally diverse group for conversation about the women’s movement of the 21st century at the Omega Institute.

Every day across the country, parents and consumers rely on products containing hundreds of chemicals. They assume the government has done its job and that these products are safe for their intended use.
