POLL: If I lost my childcare, I would...

... lose two part time jobs. Panic, take a few deep breaths. And write my Congressperson!

It seems hard to believe that family-friendly policies like HeadStart, childcare funding and afterschool programs could face steep funding cuts. When we elect legislators, they all talk about supporting family values. These programs have proven value in preventing after school mischief and crime, giving kids a great start to their education, and enabling parents to make ends meet. They're just the kind of programs that we should be investing in even more. But kids and their programs don't have powerful lobbyists representing them on Capitol Hill. They only have us.

If you haven't already, please send a message to your Congressperson in support of childcare and HeadStart programs, which are facing steep budget hits:

And everyone's favorite-- a POLL!

How would you finish this sentence: "If I lost my childcare, I would..."

If I lost my daycare I would....

I would have to leave my job, I pay $210 a week for my toddler, 1 child and the cost is more than $10,000 a year. I am fortunate to be able to afford that (completely on my own), but without i would not be able to work and we would seriously face losing everything we have.

Hmmm

Hopefully I'd be able to get my mother in law to come stay with us for a while until we found something. It is so sad that child care is so difficult to find, that our care givers are paid so poorly and yet we feel like we are paying out of the nose for the care. I desperately want another child, yet at this point we have to plan with our wallets. We are currently paying over $400/month for a 2 year old's care, and would add over $500/month for an infant. My husband and I make a good living, but if we can't afford it, how could someone on a lower salary make it with more than one?

Politicians talk a big game when it comes to early childhood development, yet there doesn't seem to be any relief in sight. At a bare minimum, you should be able to deduct ALL childcare expenses or use more flex spending to pay for them -- $5,000 doesn't even scratch the surface!

Take some time off work...

...run up a little credit card debt covering bills, and start hitting the pavement to find someone else.

I'm really lucky that I get paid well and have discovered other childcare options over the years. If my kids were still babies, it would be a different story: affordable quality infant care requires being on a waiting list.

RE:I Voted For Hilary

Wow! that was full of anger! Your title should be "I voted against Obama",
because Hillary was hardly mention & she had many issues & goals that could have been helpful to many... (huh, hateful lately?)

My guess is your a male & b. You do not belong to the democratic party.
You know, people like you are the problem with this country. You scream out hate but have no solutions. You point out difference but have to way of solving our problems.

    - Nor do you participate in any civil services
