Calling All Moms

Posted October 27th, 2008 by Tracy Patton

Last week, MomsRising.org sent out a call to action for MomsRising members to start calling moms around the country to make sure they exercise their right to vote on or before Nov. 4. Mom volunteers either signed up to host calling parties or started calling on their own.

Here is some feedback from a couple of moms who volunteered to help:

“This is the first time I've ever done so-called 'cold calling' for any reason, and it turned out to be a lot of fun to have the chance to talk to like-minded people. I was really motivated by the fact that this year's election is, I feel, a pivotal and historical one. I really felt like my efforts would make a difference. Thanks!”

"Just wanted to report that the house party went well last night! Everyone enjoyed the discussion and felt good about contributing. The phone system worked great and was very easy--people were impressed by how efficient it was and how many more people we are able to reach from the traditional phone list method."

I made some calls, too, and was able to use the script provided by MomsRising.org to answer questions about voter registration and absentee voting, as well as where to go to find more information about issues like health care and flexible work options. It was a great way to help get out the vote because I could do it on my own time.

There are only eight more days until Election Day, and every single vote is going to count. If you can set aside even just a half hour or an hour of your time, you can make a big difference. It’s easy to help. Just visit the following page, and MomsRising will send you everything you need to start making phone calls:

We're down to the wire. Let's make sure every mom we know votes!
