State Budget Expected to Derail Years of Progress in California's Children's Health Coverage System

This week, the plight of children’s health in this year’s state budget garnered front page media attention. Sunday's Los Angeles Times carried a front page story, Thousands of California children are in danger of losing health insurance, about the expected dire impact of the proposed state budget on children's health coverage in our state.

For more information about the proposed cuts to children's health coverage, see a new report, Critical Condition: Emerging Crisis in Children's Health Coverage, - produced by the 100% Campaign, California Children’s Health Initiatives, and United Ways of California - and our latest budget factsheet.. While the Big 5 - the Governor and legislative leadership - negotiate the budget, they need to hear from YOU. Semi-annual reporting in Medi-Cal and increased premiums for children enrolled in Healthy Families will lead to nearly 300,000 more uninsured children in the state.

IT'S NOT TOO LATE; TAKE ACTION NOW! School is starting, and our kids need health care!

Please tell your elected officials to urge the Big 5 to reject the short-sighted cuts to children's health care. To find your legislators, click here and enter your zip code. Call your legislators and tell them the savings are illusory and the health of 250,000 children is at stake. Also, feel free to personalize and send this sample letter to the Big 5 (fax numbers are included in the document). Your five minutes’ time can make a world of difference for California’s children.

On behalf of The Children’s Partnership and the 100% Campaign, I'd like to thank all the MomsRising.org members in California for their steadfast work to ensure that every child has access to health coverage.

Healthcare for all...SB840

Support single-payer healthcare bill SB840 which has passed through the Senate and is on its way to the Governor's desk. There is a rally in Sacramento in support on Monday, September 8th at 11am (until 12:30) on the North steps of the State Capitol. There are buses going from S.F. and Berkeley and carpools from Marin (via Health Care for All-Marin 457-9991). This is the only comprehensive solution to the challenge of providing affordable, accessible healthcare for all!
